A young refugee girl living in an orphanage in Kolkata writes a letter to her grandmother, not knowing if they’ll ever meet again. Elsewhere, a young Kashmiri boy struggles with life in the volatile region. When the two meet, they form an unlikely bond and dream of a life beyond their countless hardships. Through their story Fire of Teak, Flame of Chinar finds the heart and humanity amidst hardship, and is also the first Indian film to explore the harrowing reality of the persecuted Rohingya Tribe who fled for their lives from Myanmar.

Important please read before travelling to any festival event (26 May – 6 June 2021)
Covid – 19 Guidelines

Please note the venue’s own Covid-19 and social distancing measures and Government restrictions at the time of the screening or event by visiting the venue website and Government website Coronavirus (COVID-19): guidance and support - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). It is important we do not let our guard down and increase the risk of Covid-19 outbreaks once events resume.

Please note all venues will have social distancing measures in place over the duration of our 2021 festival.

There will be social distancing measures in place, where venues are operating with less audience capacity, the audience will need to send questions for talent and complete feedback surveys online and face masks should be brought to every festival event. Please note the venue and festival team have the right to refuse entry should rules not be complied with.

You can keep yourself and others safe by:

  • Washing your hands regularly with soap and water or using an antibacterial hand sanitiser.
  • Wearing a face covering where required and when it is difficult to socially distance
  • Self-isolating and getting tested if you develop any symptoms or receive a positive lateral flow test (LFT) result.

You should NOT attend a festival event if you have Covid-19 symptoms.

The main symptoms of Covid-19 are:

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough, this is a lot of coughing for more than one hour or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • A loss or change to sense of smell or taste

If you are not sure whether symptoms suggest you have Covid-19, you can consult this online NHS symptom checker: Symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
