Ray of Hope

UK Asian Film Festival will be commemorating the centenary of Satyajit Ray in 2021. To mark this unique celebration of one of the greatest filmmakers, UKAFF are offering five emerging artists £1000 each to create 3min long digital films on the theme Ray of Hope. Ray of Hope should be inspired by Ray’s cinema, visually magnificent, rustic and natural, sensitive, joyous or yearnful music. The selected digital commissions will be presented at the 23rd UK Asian Film Festival between 4 and 14 March 2021.

To apply, please submit 1 example of your past work and a YouTube or Vimeo link to your 3min video pitch to info@tonguesonfire.com by Mon 18 May 2020 by 5pm GMT discussing:
• Your background/introduction
• Your idea / vision
• How you intend to make the work
• What should audiences feel when they watch your work

Criteria for selection is based on:
• Appropriateness of the theme
• A clear sense of purpose and integrity that has the potential to reach the highest artistic standards of practice
• Work that has the ability to interact and captivate audiences
• Innovation and diversity
• The lead artist has to be a UK based artist

Timeline:
• Sun 26 April: Artist surgery via Zoom for any questions that prospective artists have about their proposals
• Mon 11 May 2020, 5pm GMT: Deadline for submissions:
• Sat 23 / Sun 24 May 2020: Interviews with shortlisted artists via Zoom
• 5 June 2020: Announcement of selected commissions
• Mon 4 January 2021: Deadline to submit the finished film, synopsis and high-resolution image.
• Commissions will be presented between 4 and 14 March 2021 at the 23rd UK Asian Film Festival
