Kamli

Join us for a special in-person screening of Kamli, followed by a Q&A with acclaimed director Sarmad Khoosat, as part of Unspoken: The UK South Asian Mental Health Film Festival.

Kamli is a romantic musical and psychological drama centred on Hina, a quiet and lonely woman who has spent eight years waiting for her missing husband to return. Living an unfulfilled life with her blind and overprotective sister-in-law, Sakina, Hina’s world begins to change when she meets Amaltaas, a mysterious wanderer who develops feelings for her.

What follows is an intense and forbidden romance, as Hina is torn between the possibility of new love and her loyalty to Sakina and her absent husband.

Running alongside Hina’s story is Zeenat, a frustrated painter struggling with her marriage and alcohol. Hina becomes her muse, inspiring not only her art but also drawing Zeenat into a complex journey in which she becomes, at once, a reluctant villain and a selfless saviour.

A haunting exploration of loneliness, desire, emotional confinement, relationships and inner conflict, Kamli is a powerful addition to Unspoken’s programme of films opening conversations around mental health and experiences that are too often left unspoken.
