In this intimate and epic portrait of a society in change, we follow the coming of age of a young woman, Radha, in 1980s’ middle-class India. Surrounded by books and music, Radha has little contact with Sundar, a boy who helps her life of privilege. Sundar runs away one day, and when she meets him years later, Radha considers that he may be more free than she is. In her 30s now, in modern India, served again—this time by Umesh, Radha thinks of Sundar and seeks him out. The Umesh Chronicles is a map of the past and a sketch for the future.
